Hi. As the title suggests, this was a factory 350 car, now has BBC. Headers are pinned against the brake proportioning valve mounted to the driver frame rail. I've since unbolted and rerouted/tweaked the existing brake lines on the car to move the prop valve to the top of the frame rail, under the steering shaft. This fixes the direct heat problems, but created a problem with getting to #7 plug and wire. I want to look at a factory '70 El Camino/Chevelle BBC brake line/prop valve routing set-up to see what it will take to do this the right way. The previous owner has changed out all the brake lines with hand bent(home grown, and a great job done) lines, so none of them are factory for the SBC car even though the prop valve appears to be in the correct small block location on the inner frame rail.
Does anyone here have a source for detailed pics of what the BBC brake system looks like on the '70? I'd appreciate any help with photos, or correct parts.
I'm not to where I can get pics of what is on the car now, but it does have the rectangular style MC, not the oval shaped one, if that helps. Thanks.

The brake system for a BB and SB is the same. I’ve also done the 350 to 454 engine swap and replaced all brake lines in the factory locations. My headers do not have any issues with the brake system. Maybe your headers are the issue?

I'm running a 69 set of disks on the front of my 70 EC with headers on my LS engine. No trouble with fitting, rubbing or heating of the brake line. Using the large booster and the rectangular master cylinder.

I can take pictures later tonight if you want. A look at the Factory Assembly Manual might also help you.

I don't have an issue with the headers now. I just wanted to know if the BB cars had different line routing.
Patriot headers are on this car. What's on your car?

Nah, can't compare that set up to mine, but thanks for the info. I don't have the FAM at this point in time, I'll look further into that, should be interesting. Thanks for the reply.

I have FlowTech ceramic coated. It’s just a little tight getting the oil filter in/out.

Never had any problems with factory line routing in 70-72 Chevelles or El Caminos with BBC and headers.
Ok. I get it. You, and everyone else here don't have any problems with your headers and your brake lines 👏. I no longer have that problem either. I just want to see what the factory routing on BBC cars looks like compared to this car. Previous replies say they are identical to sbc cars, I don't know that for a fact, that's why I asked for photos, or drawings to look at. From what I can tell, this prop valve block "appears" to be in the factory location, I do not know that, so I am assuming I should look at drawings of where it would be from the factory. Does anyone here have 2"primary Patriot headers on their '70 El Camino?
EDIT: Wish I had this in the original post. If it's any consequence to this thread, this car has 2" primary Patriot headers on it.

I have a set of Hookers with 2-1/8 primaries, with one tube on each side over the frame rail and through the fender well. No issues with brake lines and they are on a Camino, since "day two".

Thrust what folks say or if you want factual evidence buy yourself an assembly manual which shows when production line parts are different for various options such as engine options (if there are any parts that are different from a SBC).

Not sure if this will make you feel better or not, but a friend of mine with a ‘70 Chevelle with a big block swapped his old rotted headers out for a new set - and had the exact same problem you had. This was 25 years ago, so I don’t remember what headers he had.

His answer was a BFH due to time limitations. He just dented the tube in so we could get to the drag strip and race that night (run what ya brung every Wednesday night street cars at the track and we were scrambling to get to the track.)

Not sure if he ever fixed it properly or not, but he did win a few heads up races that night. ;)

on my 70, I ran the summit brand 1 7/8 header and it clears the dist block on the frame. buddy bought the hooker super comps 2 1/8 inch headers and it would not clear the block, he exchanged the headers for the smaller tube headers and everything fit. jim
