I ran across a 70 Malibu today. All orginal car 73k, 350 auto, PS, PB, owned by present owner for 21 years. Repainted in 1995, some bubbling on lower rear of front fender and directly behind rear wheels maybe a 2x3 inch area in each place, that was the olny rust I could find. Everything else looked good. Some paint chips and small scratches. Front seat has two tears and would need to be recovered front carpet would also need replacing, also has after market radio. Will attach some pictures. WIW?
Thanks,
Charlie

Man i thought those houses looked familiar... what are you doing in my neighborhood? j/k. I haven't seen that car around, what part of town is that in? don't worry i don't need another car. I am not good with numbers so someone should be along to help with that.

Chris,
Nice looking 70SS. I am working on a 66. Waiting to get it back from my body guy so I can reasemble it. The other year I like is 70 with a big block. If I could buy this one right I might consider cloning it. I would have to think about that though because this one looks pretty untouched other than the repaint.

Chris,
Nice looking 70SS.

Thanks. After seeing your post i found the listing for the car, At first i thought you were the seller trying to get opinions to see if your listing was priced right. have you seen the car in person? just wanted to know how the underneath is trunk/floors?

If you can get a good price on it it may be worth what you want to do with it. although you could keep it a Malibu and still put a big block in it (purists cringing ) and have fun with it.

Another option would be to keep it mostly original but upgrade the drive line, bore and stroke the 350 to the max and have a nice sleeper.

Chris,
I looked at the car yesterday. Trunk and floor appear to be excellent. I did see a couple of bubbles under the vinyl top with with some rust stains on the paint below. Put an offer on the car that was not accepted.

Here's a 70 307 car discussed in another WIW post that you can look at for reference, made it up to $12,600 I think with no sale- neat car. One or two guys suspected shill bids in there driving the price up (meaning they thought it was too much money at $12,600). If you read that whole discussion it's pretty interesting. Bench seat auto.

Here's a 71 350 car in Virginia Beach with a 4 speed/ buckets/ air conditioning they claim is an EZ resto asking $8,500- WOW that seems steep to me, and EZ resto??
http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/ctd/2177291497.html

So the car you posted seems closer to grandmpas 1970 but has a 350 vs 307, so I'm going to guess this, assuming it runs/ drive/ stops well:
$12,500 sellers asking price?
$8,000 your offering price?

I personally like the small block/ non-SS/ rare cars from a value perspective. If I was loaded sure I'd love a high horse COPO or LS-6 etc.
If you'd like to post the asking price and your offering price it will be a nice reference point for those that want a car similar to the one you posted.
PS Charlie looks like you're from Western NY State? Spent a week at Lake Chautaugua this Summer- awesome!

John,
The car runs good, has a antifreeze leak on top of engine, front end is tight, drives and stops well. The body is exceptional for a car that has lived its life in NYS. It could not have seen many winters. Asking price is 11,900 and I offered 10,000 which I think is plenty for the car. Seller said he has had a lot of calls and I was the first person to look at the car. I am about a hour and a half from Lake Chautauga. My son lives in Raleigh and we have rented a cabin in Ashville and are bringing the rest of the family down for a few days this summer.

Wow you'd think an offer of $10K on $11.9K would get you somewhere, at least to his bottom dollar.
I dig that car... but I think you're about right on your offering price, might let him marinade on it for a while.
Wife's clan are all in Ashville, great town!

Buyer indicated he would take 11k and might possibily take my offer after testing the water for a while. Time will tell if he gets sick of tire kickers and dreamers. Maybe someone will really like the car and offer more.

If I werre hunting for a Chevelle and ran across that one $10K would have me interested, if I were selling that Chevelle $10K would have me interested, I think you're on the money there, if the needed bodywork/ rust repair isn't too bad. I dig it personally.
