Just put the dash back in my chevelle and noticed that when I turn on the lights with the key off that the gas guage goes to
E and the temp gauge goes to 250 and beyond, when I turn the key on all readings go to normal, never noticed this before, is this normal for a 70 with the gauge package? also the turn signals work but are real slow, the flashers are OK, just worried something is hooked up wrong, don't want a meltdown, any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

Can't answer your question on the gages. If they are working right with power on them I don't know what to suggest to "fix" them. On your signals:
An old flasher or a super heavy duty flasher can run slow. If you haven't recently replaced the one under the dash, try one of the $3.00 kind from the chain auto stores. It may break faster if all the light bulbs are ok. Slow flashing is normally a bad can or a lamp problem. It takes current through them for the can to trip.
