Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not aware of anyone reproducing (or planning on it) quarter panels for 68/69 vintage Chevelle convertibles.

My one 69 quarter was replaced with a skin back in the late 80's and I would like to change it out with a full quarter if possible. Has anyone here modified a hard top quarter to replace a convertible quarter?

I'll probably do the job myself but I'd prefer to find a qualified person in the NJ area to do the work. Any (positive) input would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say how it would work for a 69. Mine is a 64 and I used full quarters. Didn't really know what I was getting into but mine had a set of poorly installed skins and rust above them so it was do or die. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I was expecting it was actually fairly straight forward. In the end I replaced 99 percent of the original quarters and barely needed any filer to finish them off for paint. The edge around the top about a half inch wide and the edges at the quarter windows needed to be saved.

I don't think there is any way to modify a full 1/4 for a hardtop to make it fit a vert. The best you can do is end up with a skin like you say you already have. Look at the upper body line on your vert, nothing like a hard top.

Now I'm qurious. Do you guys actually have first hand knolage of what your saying? It's there a thread where somebody tried to make a coupe quarter fit a vert? Like I first said mine is not a 68-69 it's a 64 and I was able to make them fit extremely well I even have a complete thread proving it. And from my extensive research on the subject from what I could find I'm the only person who ever did it or at least documented it in a thread. I was in a first name basis with with goodmark for a period of 7 years calling then periodically to check on the status of when full quarters for 64-65 would be produced and when they started making then I was notified via email and ordered them as soon as I had the funds. Not questing what you guys know just how you came about knowing it.
Link to my original thread and there's a link in the thread to the installation. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=326216&highlight=

The OP is referring to '69 quarters and the responses have been directed that way. The '68/'69 has an additional contour at the peak that doesn't match up to the coupe versions.
I was thinking AMD was tooling up to reproduce these, but I don't know the progress or ETA.

Thanks all - years ago I found a video, possibly on YouTube, that loosely documented putting a hard top quarter on a 68/69 convert - I'll keep looking for it

this topic has come up many times on this site and i have had to correct people more then once.you can modify a 68/69 hard to quarter to fit a convertible and it is not hard at all.you just have to know what you are looking at and where to cut down the hard top panel.so if you do a thread search you will find that i have post pictures of the process on how i did it on my 69 convertible.hopefully some day they will reproduce them in the future but for now you can only modify a hardtop panel.here are some links

Yeah if you want to cut the coupe quarter there and graft it in just above that. The original question was about a COMPLETE quarter. There is no way to make a coupe quarter into a complete convertible quarter and have it look right.

i think you need to go back and read the original post Sir.because the post asked several questions- one was about them reproducing 68/69 convertible quarter panels and the other was if anyone modified a hardtop quarter panel to fit a convertible...........so you are half right.
But i chose to answer the latter.

Might as well just use a skin. No full 1/4 panel there.
for some that might work.but after i did all my research i found that people had problems with the body lines on repop 69 skins.so i chose to use factory hard top quarter panels i found on craigslist.so to each his own........

There you go, make a skin out of a full 1/4 and you can make it work.

Good Video. I did a quarter for Jim B on a 69 ss but can not remember if it was a full or skin, I did the same as the guy in the video BUT We did not want to get into the front Jamb or Tail Panel so remember if doing this there is a front striker plate that you need to cut the quarter back from and also the tail panel inside I remember there was a spot where the light pocket over lapped inside,so make sure if anyone does this way that you can have access past these panel's.. I believe once welded I only had a few spots that needed a light stud pull on any low area's.. I am a olds guy from way back and have 71 supreme notch back, back then the only quarter avail was the fast back style so I cut down the middle to lose the curve as the supreme is flat there and is still on the car today I believe I was 18 then.
