Finishing up a 3 year body off, full, correct restoration on my Malibu that I ordered new. I need some help here. The taillight housings were blasted before I could get pictures of them mainly for the pinstriper.

Now, I have the Assembly Manual section "1 C4" (page 45?), that shows the stripe widths and height placements. That's fine. We have the old front fenders with the stripes on them, and he can match the distance from the end of the stripe to the front of the fenders, and, how the far the stripes taper into each other.

What he would like to see is a picture of an original, not repainted, rear taillight housing, preferably both driver and passendger sides, that show the taper on the rear end of the stripe(s), the length of the blended line, and the distance from the end of the stripe to the rear of the housing. He's not comfortable with just working off the Assembl Manual sketch, and I agree with him.

Does anyone
(1) have either an original paint car, with the factory twin stripes
or
(2) some old taillight housings (parts) with the original stripes

that could give me some pictures as well as the dimensions of the above boldfaced items.

It's the last little details that sometimes take the most time and research. I'd sincerely appreciate any and all assistance. Again, this is a Malibu, 2 door, not an SS

Thanks in advance,

This is all I got so far. 69 dealer brochure.

And this on a repaint. Just throwing it out there. 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle
I'm bored and searching.
If you look at the first pic, the pinstripe doesnt follow the downward motion of the fender. It just goes straight, unlike the lower two pics.

The yellow car doesnt have the pin stripe go as f as r back to the taillight as the top car.

The last pic the pinstripe is even shorter than the others, and it looks like the fender body line isnt matching the door body line.

Just observances, but glad you posted them.

Do you think the factory had a +/- concept when adding the stripe? Like the pinstriper could put it on as long as it was within 2-3 inches of the taillight.

I also find it odd that the pinstripe doesnt follow the body line all the way back.

The first and last pics I recognize from the '69 Chevelle dealer brochure so they should be pretty accurate. The Malibu pinstripe dimensions and locations are in the assembly manual but they are applied by assembly line workers so I'm sure there are some variances.

Good observations, thank you ! Re: following the body line, I also noticed the difference in placement between the door handle and lock cylinder in the first and third pictures
Also first pic is a Concours (optional trim package on Malibu 4 dr hardtops) equipped 4 dr hardtop and third pic is Malibu 2 dr hardtop. The third pic appears to follow the assembly manual dimensions more closely and is typical of all other factory generated pics I've seen of 2 dr hardtops.

Here are some pictures of original paint 69
You can see some slight differenced L & R sides, hand stripped on the line like was already mentioned.
The assembly book shows the stripes different thickness, these were the same thickness.
Oshawa built car, this was in 2010, I don't have the car anymore.
Hope it helps some

Very, very helpful ! Thank you !!

Mine was built in Framingham. The upper and lower (still have the original fenders in storage) are different widths as shown in the Assembly Manual. I suppose there were variations across all of the plants, which we know in other aspects was not unusual. Thanks again !!

I think they were done with a double roller and when they came to the taper, one roller was lifted. I'm pretty sure I read it here.

My dad gave me a roller kit similar to this one in the picture. He was pretty good with it but I never could master it. Beugler Deluxe Pinstriping Kit
