Anyone Know The Correct Number For The Metal Trans Tag, Its An Original M22 4spd Trans Out Of A 69 SS396 L78 With A 3:55 Rearend Gear? Thanks To All!

Sorry, I can’t help with the tag number but your post brings up a question concerning transmission/gear combinations for me.

From the factory what rear end ratios could you get the M22 transmission with?

I thought the close ratio M21 & 22’s were only offered with low geared rear ends and 3.55’s got the M20.

I don't have the answer either but there's one on e-bay right now I believe for a 69 L78, take the number off of that one and do a search on this site with that part number and it may come up from another post.

As for the other question I beleve the 70 LS6-M22 came with either a 3.31 or 4.10 rear only.

Any one who ordered a 3.31 with a M22 sure wasn't thinking. The car would be a slouch off the line. You need at least a 4.10 and lower rear gear unless you convert it to a M22 wide today.
