What color was the factory flywheel inspection cover on 69's with big blocks ?

I'm pretty sure my friend has the original cover and it was left natural to rust. I know the GM replacements are black but he wants to use the factory cover since there a tad different than the replacements.

Thanks

There is nothing in the assembly manual that I found, that indicates the flywheel cover was installed during the final assembly process, which means, the cover was installed at the engine plant. If the cover was installed at the engine plant, it would have to have a lot of orange paint on it. If it wasn't installed till after the engine was painted, the flywheel would be covered with paint. So my guess is; the cover was installed and painted orange, or at least had a bunch of orange over spray on it like the bell housing.

Of all the cars I have restored as well as many originals that have come into my shop, the inspection cover always has orange overspry on it with varying degrees of coverage
