Hi all:
I did a search on flowmasters and found that I would like to get the 2½", 3 chamber 50 series, delta-flow mufflers. Flowmaster does not have a kit that includes these mufflers. (the american thunder version has the 30 series mufflers). I was considering the pipe only kit (p/n 17107) + the mufflers (p/n 942553).

1. Is this pipe kit compatible with the 2½" delta flow 50 series? (I think so, but not certain)?

2. Does this kit have turn downs or straight-out tail pipes? I know the american thunder kit comes with both tail pipes. ?

3. Most of the posts I have read indicate the kits are easy to install / good quality. Anyone know of any issues that might affect my application? (69 396 w/headers)? Do the H pipes connect well?

All comments welcome - thanks.

Bow Tied, just another thought on suppliers.
I also have a '69 and am really pleased with a kit I purchased from Torque Tech of Valdosta, Ga. They are good to deal with and are very knowledgeable. Mine is 2 1/2" aluminized, mandrel bent, with an H-pipe, and 42553 Flowmaster mufflers.Their number is [912]241-1563 for Technical information.

Thanks Raymond. I was plannig on dealing strictly with a local supplier to avoid the hassles of shipping, border crossing, and exchange rates etc. though...my local pro-shop can get me flowmasters and a couple of other choices.
The US prices are much cheaper I have noticed - the same muffler on JEGS is $80 - here it is $140CAN on sale!

Bowtied,
I did as you want local shop had the delta 50's in stock but not the kit had 'em order the kit for me I picked it up and bolted it on in about a day.
The only problem I had was with the H pipe hitting my drive shaft. But I'm also using a 700r4 trans. I just heated and reformed the H pipe to give me clearance (about 3/8in).
Setup comes with both style tips. want pics?

I just ordered that pipe kit,17107, and same mufflers(50 series Delta flow 3 chamber Flowmasters). It should be here in a couple days.It comes with both turn downs and straight out tail pipes,clamps,hangers,h-pipe and adapters for headers. I'll reply to this post when I receive the kit to give you more info! Flowmaster recommends, in 50 series, P/N 942553 mufflers.

Philip:
Yes, I would like to see the pictures. Feel free to email them to [email protected] or post them - what ever is easier. How long ago did you install them? I was concerned that heating the pipe might affect the 'aluminizing'.

Ken:
Lookin' forward to your info.

Thanks all - Ron

Thank-you Philip for the pics, most helpful. Quick question about the tail pipes: Those are 2½" right? Is there much difference in how the 'over the axle pipe' gets positioned for use with the straight tails vs the turn downs??

Looks great! Wished my under carriage looked so good.

I just finished installing the Flowmaster kit with 50 series delta flow mufflers. I installed them on a 70 S.S. and the job was easy! The hangers fit perfect, just follow the instructions. The H-pipe fits good but I have traction bars and had to tweek it a little to make the mufflers clear. The area that needs the most work is between the H-pipe and the headers. The pipes need to be measured and cut to adapt to the headers you have.Take your time here and line everything up before cutting. The sound is great! It's exactly what I wanted, nice rumble at idle and when on the gas.The sound inside has minimal resonance, listening to the radio or conversation is not hindered, and when you get on the throttle and you can hear the engine come to life. The straight or turn down pipes install the same way, they need to be cut to length. Be careful positioning the pipes over the axle so they won't hit anything, the clamps really can't hold them tight enough to stop them from twisting unless you really tighten em down.I'm going to get mine tack welded together to prevent this from happening. Very good kit, nice installation,NICE Sound! My son has 40 series in his car and it's loud!
