I have the whole front suspension torn down on my 69 Elco and I'm looking at these dust shields..

Are they needed?

Looks to me like rocks can get caught up in there and they hold rotor heat.. I've run disc conversions on other cars without them and never had any issues..

I think the idea of for rocks/debris NOT to get caught there.

Any aftermarket systems like BAER or Wilwood don't use 'em, as there doesn't appear to be shields for bigger modern rotors. I would think you could run without them, if that's your preference.

Yes use them.

Take a look at you control arms. Most likely you will find them coated with both grease and tar.

You do not want that on the rotors.
