So I'm currently undergoing fixing up my car, I will not sell it either. My question is in regards to insuring it. I currently have a policy with American Collectors with an agreed value of $25k. My car is a 69 SS396 car. I know it as such because my dad bought it in the early 70's and swapped a 454 into it and kept the original 396/325 until ultimately he sold it years later, I do know where it is though in a Nova. It was originally a light blue but was repainted dark blue, it is an original AC car and 4 speed. Now it has no AC and a TKX going in behind the 509 i put in it with the original 12 bolt that has a tru-trac and 3.73 gears.

The paint is a good 5 footer, it is showing some age, and has a few dents and dings that I would consider normal for its age, it was painted in the early 80's. The car did get backed into a pole several years ago, the only damage was to the bumper itself. The interior is the biggest let down, the front bench seat needs foam and recovered, the dash has a small crack, but otherwise in good shape. Interior will be my next project I tackle, I wanted to get mechanicals done first and put some miles on it before getting into the interior.

I feel that $25k might be a little soft, but unsure. Here are some photos.

I'm no expert but having built several 69 & 70 chevelles and first gen camaros, there are a couple of things that might help you. consider what it would cost to repair or replace the chevelle if something happened, that could drastically impact the cost especially if you had to take it to a shop and pay labor. the cost of parts are going up and seemingly the quality down depending on the manufacturer and who knows what the future holds. You will also need to have a conversation with the insurance company and see what they will do, I'm sure they may have some limits to mileage and other things if you were to insure it for a respectable amount. Your current 25k might get you a replacement but i doubt you could get it at the same level you will be at when you complete the current one, and you can bet any insurance company will adjust based on thier idea of depreciation. just some food for thought. good luck with it and for heavens sake buy the other guy a motor and get the original engine back if only to keep it in the garage. lol take care

I have a hard time putting a price on it because of sentimental reasons. It's priceless to me. But if something were to happen to it I don't really know of a number that would make me happy.

Has the bumper been repaired/replaced? (looks like it has judging by the photo). Why no pics of the interior which you say is a drawback? Even without the interior photos I agree with you - mid 30's would be my guess.

Its visible in the rear photo, just above the right side of the plate. I can get photos of the interior. I just realized when making this post i have no interior photos.

Im with Hagerty and have been for many years. Currently have mine at $45K and couldnt replace it for that. When I renew improbably going to $60K. One great thing I have with Hagerty is cherished salvage. What that does if my car is damaged beyond economical repair i get the agreed value but I keep the car. So the $30K i have in new parts I can transfer to a replacement vehicle.
Might want to consider something similar if you are going to invest a fair sum in upgrades.

I'm trying to man. I've been trying to get it back for a few years. The only downfall is that it was decked and the front pad is blank now. So probably not worth much unless there is another way to identify it.
May have a stamp down by the oil filter.

25 k absolutely is short. If that thing burns to the ground you are not replacing it for 25 g's
25 doesn't go much distance these days lol
Why not put 40 or 50 on it ? How much more will the premium be ? Not much.
I use haggerty and they pretty much let you put whatever on the car

Cherished salvage is an option on insurance?
