I would appreciate somebody posting some fairly close up pictures of the two lift hooks attached to a 69 BB. Would like to get an idea of the "degrees of angle" for the bends in them.

Also, am I correct in assuming that both should be "natural steel" in colour, rather than orange, for aluminum intake engines?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know Von, still waiting to confirm the colours of both on an aluminum intake engine. Anybody got confirmation of this?

Over on the Yenko Board a member just posted pictures of his newly restored 69 L89 Camaro and he has both hooks painted Orange

Not to hi jack this post but what should the cast iron manifold tabs be? I have heard they should have been painted black or engine orange color.

Don,

I may have a picture of the colors of the hooks on the aluminum manifold engines at home. I'll let you know when I get home.

Also, Paragon Corvette makes beautiful repops of these for not much. They might also be a good source for the answer to your question.

Woj

PS. I can confirm the front left hook is natural metal. My pictures do not show the back hook, so I can't say on that one.

It's my understanding they are left natural on both the Cast Iron and Aluminum intake motors.

I will put in a disclaimer that I am not 100% possitive. But that is my understanding.

I typically learn something new every day though so....

Just received confirmation from fellow TCer "TDW" who bought an all original L-78 a few years ago. I asked him if there was any paint on either hook when he cleaned up his engine compartment. Here's how his were done:

Front driver's side - Natural.
Rear passenger's side - Orange.

His car has been an amazing source for a number of items. Although these could very well have been plant specific, I'm going with these colours.

Woj - thanks for the Paragon lead, I'll check them out. I have a used set here that are in pretty good shape, but if they're cheap I may go with a new set.

That's interesting. That conflicts with a restoration article I have that specifies rear hook to be natural. I trust the unrestored car as definitive obviously.

I guess that makes sense then if you consider that the front hook would be masked with the manifold, and the rear would not be since it was bolted to the rear head.

That saves a mistake on mine.

I was also incorrect on the cast iron manifolds. I dug up a picture of an unrestored 69 396/350 that shows the front and rear tab painted Orange.

Sorry about passing bad info, I'll verify before I post next time.

Can't trust that 40 year old memory apperantly. :)

The 396/350 photo shows very light overspray coverage on the inside (motor side) portion of the rear tab. I would assume that would be the same for the Aluminum intake.

Probably a building flaw back then. When I pulled my motor for a rebuild.Had never been out of vehicle. The rears looked to have been orange at one time. But had a rear lift tab on back of each head.
