I understand there are two different antennas for a 69 Chevelle. If I understand correctly, the AM radio had a telescoping eliptical mast and the AM-FM had a non-telescoping mast. I have a telescoping eliptical mast that has a threaded base (see attached photo). I have a base unit but that takes a post with a threaded nut. My question, is there two different bases as well or do I have the wrong mast? I was told it belonged on a 69 Chevelle, but now I have my doubts. Is there a eliptical telescoping mast with the same base/mount as the the broken one in the photo?

The broken one on the left is the correct antenna Scottie. My understanding there were two different types of masts used in 1969 on various models. However, the Chevelle had the srew in mast with the securing nut. The bottoms of the masts (not seen when installed) might have had two different looks as well - one with a couple of grooves and one without.

Here's what I was referring to about the bases. The one with the grooves was on my car years ago then got busted. The other was an NOS replacement that's on the car now. I am by no means an expert on 69 antennas and my earlier comments were just what I have read over the years. There are probably more knowledgeable people out there that could give an opinion.

The screw in antenna on the right may be from a '68 Chevelle as that's what they used. If yours is an early build it could be factory, but I have never seen an original '69 with that style. One other possibility is the dealer may have installed it and that is what they had in stock. My '69 radio and antenna was installed by the dealer and they used a screw in unit similar to yours. I replaced it with a correct antenna like the picture on the left.

A third antenna option was on the passenger rear quarter panel.
That was for AM radio only.
so you are saying that am radio had the antenna in the rear only? the assy shows it on the right fender. thats where i put my nos antenna assy. scottie, the one on the right in your pic is for a 68 & the one on the left is 69. bill

The one on the left side is correct with the teeth in the bottom of the mass and it will have a nut to hold it in place also called an elliptical antenna. If you need another NOS correct antenna you can get one from Dennie Turner phone 352-245-8346 e-mail [email protected]

Thanks for all the responses. I tried Dennie about a month ago. The person that answered to that nuimber said I had the wrong number. Also, he does not respond to that email. Finding the correct antenna has been the most difficult of the entire restoratoin!! Tamarz say they have it coming. I keep watching ebay for the correct NOS.

Don,

Are you trying to say my fixed rear mast AM/FM antenna is incorrect? ...Just kidding I know it's not correct but I still thought it would look cool back there!
