I am currently restoring back to original a 1969 396 375hp iron head engine. Have been searching site for pics or illustrations I can use for reference to make engine factory correct. Looking for help. If someone can point me in right direction for pics, or recommend any books or materials so I can get the detail correct.
I have all the correct dated components. Alt, W/P, P/S, Distributor, Holley 4 BBL Carb, Winters Alum intake. Original chrome valve covers, Original chrome air cleaner. Want to get all Electrical, Vacuum, Fuel line routing and any other detail correct.
Will be installing back into my 69 SS with A/C car.

I’m a little surprised that you’re going to such lengths to make everything correct and then you’re going to put it a car with AC since it was not available on 375hp cars

Being without it sucks in the summer even in the eve if things havent cooled down.

No ac in the 375 hp 396 cars . Hadn't ever heard that

A/C was not available in any car with a solid lifter engine. To the OP, you can sure add A/C if you like, but you aren't going to find a deep groove A/C pulley. I'm sure you could use a standard pulley, though, but you aren't going to find any "correct" pictures of a L78 with A/C.

NO correct photos. NO correct AC deep groove pulley. NO correct three-groove crank pulley. Nor correct block VIN. A previous owner must have replaced the engine. Post the build sheet.

Good lord people, back off. The man didn't say his car was originally an L78, he said he had a correct L78 and wants it to look as correct as possible in his 69 with A/C. Nothing wrong with that at all. Seems like an awful lot of grouchy old ladies on here lately...

Your initial post stated it was an SS. You stated "Will be installing back into my 69 SS with A/C car." If not an SS not even necessarily an original 396 car at all. You are not up against anything since the car is not an original anything other than a Chevelle with AC. An Assembly Manual would be helpful.

There was one exception solid lifter/no A/C rule. In 1972 you could get AC in the LT1 Corvette but not in the Z28, go figure.
