Have one in my 68 el camino ss396.Not sure of the number amount if would be counted. The bench was standard in that year with the bucket setup as an option.Welcome to TC,especially with a 68,imop the best looking year. Not sure of the buick stuff may have been from past owner.Had a long strike in that year.Or just using what interiors they had. Some ss that year had padded a post covers some had metal.

Figures may be hard to come by for bench vs. bucket options. There was a shortage of Chevelle interiors during a period in 68 and both Buick and Olds interiors have been seen and they are reflected on the Fisher Body plate. Buick seats have been known to have a -178 after the trim color and Olds have been known to have a -980 suffix. A TC member has a gorgeous 68 SS with the Buick bucket seats. While not that common, it's not unheard of. The interior photo below is a Kansas-built car.

If rusty bottoms were a gauge, there wouldn't be many cars left. Sounds like a project alright, but all those parts are available. Save the car!

Heck put up a picture and let me have a look. You're close enough that I might be interested in taking it off your hands ;)

68's are special... no way you junk it. Or maybe that's just me.

In 1968, there was an extra-cost option "B55 - Deluxe front seat cushion". 2,783 cars were built with this option. However, the RPO total report specifically indicates that this option was only available on the base model vehicles. It was not an available option on any Malibu or SS. Presumably, the upscale cars already had extra padding in the seat and D55 was not necessary.

And, obviously, some Malibus and Super Sports did come with the Buick-style interior. But I don't think there was any sort of extra cost or RPO code associated with the Buick-style interior in the Malibu or SS.
