I'm not sure if my cylinder is missing the cover for it, the part you see when looking at the ignition switch normally. Is it all covered except that tiny hole and for how the key goes in, or is there more open space beyond just the space needed to put in the key?

If anyone knows of any pics on the net I can look at to see, it would be appreciated. I ordered a switch from national parts depot, but turns out it is slightly defective, so it kicks off your door buzzer 24-7. If it's not like the real thing I'd just as well ask for the refund for it in a couple other things I need from em.

Any info helps, thanks.

Ox if Im not mistaken your door buzzer is switched by a contact switch that is down by the sector and shaft in your column. Your ignition lock cylinder might be misaligned with the sector.Check to see if both lock cyl look the same on the internal end. Not really sure about what your asking about hole around the key.

Ox,

You should be able to get the ign parts local. I bought mine at Car Quest for like $10 bucks and it was just like original. As for your question Yes there should be a cover as you explained. Let me run out to the shop and take a pic of mine. give me a half hour.
pmullaly- 68's are on the dash not the column

OK here is the scan Y.O.
Hopefully you can see what it should look like. The only difference is mine only has one little hole.

I would like to add something. Every1 always says this is wrong. On my ignition you turn it up and down for the car to be off and no access. But you turn it right to turn on the car. Yet acces is also left. I can turn it either way 1 click and the acces comes on is this right?

gumball,

If I understand you correctly, what you are saying is your car electrical power (radio etc) is on when the top of your key is pointing at 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock. 10 would be accessory and 2 would be the "on position. If this is not the case this how it should be. Hope this helps.
