Can someone tell me if they came in two differnt lenghts? like one for wheel well mouldings and one for without the wheel well mouldings? Mine come 1/2-3/4 of an inch away from the wheel well. Seems like it should be closer.

There were/are two different lengths available, but it had nothing to do with the wheel well mouldings. I believe all but the 300 got the longer piece that extended horizontally to the "edge" of the wheel opening. The shorter piece was considerably shorter, and stopped just as the trim would turn into the horizontal plane. This is my understanding anyway. If someone knows otherwise, I'm certain we'll find out soon.
As far as how well the trim fits certain body panels... I think we can all attest to the relative poor quality of some of the factory fit and finish.

300 series and some of the wagons got the short molding, part#3917473-74, Malibus and SS's had the long one, 3920845-46. The bottom of the molding ends against the wheel opening flare, it doesn't go all the way to the wheel opening. Looks like this-
