My brother has a 68 chevelle that we are re-assembleing. We are having trouble hooking the Tach up. For one the assembly manual doesnt show anything for the tach as to what wires go to it. And it also doesnt say which wire from the engine harness goes to the Dist./MSD box. If anyone out there has a 68 chevelle. Can you take a look and see what color wires go to the tach/dist?

John,

I don't have a wire diagram for 68, however for 69' there is a brown wire that is the signal wire going to the neg - terminal of the coil.

And if my memeory serves me well the only other two wires going to the tach are the 12 volt + (pink) and the neg - (black) which is technicaly a gauge chassis ground.

Hope this helps.

If you have the MSD box there is a tach terminal on it. The brown wire from the tach goes there

Ok I have figured out that the stock tach is not working. I hoked up an aftermarket style uning the factory tach connector. The new one works and the stock tach does not. Does anyone know of a place that restores old tach's? And about how much they run?

Try American Classic Restoration I believe in NJ. They are on line as well but I am not home at this time to look up the address. Try key words. The cost will depend on what is wrong and if you just want it repaired or restored to like new condition as well. They did a great job on mine last winter.
