i have a 67 chevelle that when brake lights are on and you turn on either turn signal on the brakes lights go off. i have the turn flasher and both rear light sockets. does any one know what might be wrong and what to check?
Turn signal switch in the column. It's the mix master of sorts and regulates which brake light will stay on if you turn on a signal.
You can test this with a test light. Ground your test light lead to a good ground. Then probe where the wire enters the connector at the bottom of the steering column.
The white wire comes in from the brake lt switch. When you press the brakes you should see power here.
The dk green wire is the right turn/stop and yellow is the left turn/stop lt. With the turn selector in left turn, the yellow wire should blink and the green wire will stay on constantly and vice versa. Not happening? Then it's a defective turn signal switch in the column.
