I am not knowledgable about the earlier models, and a friend is trying to work a trade to get a '67
The guy sent him pix and he said the car has a clock in both the dash and the console. What's the scoop?

The scoop is this.... something on this car was changed at one point in time.. plain and simple. either the seat type or the gauge cluster.

If this car came with Factory Buckets and a Console.. then appropriately, the Clock would be in the console.. no debate.

and so in that scenario the dash would have the clock delete/block off plate or if the car was ordered with gauge pkg., it would have the gauges and no need for the clock block at all.

Another scenario.. Car with no gauges in dash and was a factory Bench seat car.. then the car would have clock in dash.

another scenario... car came with bench seat and gauges in dash... so now the clock gets mounted on the FLOOR ( yes, this was the way it happened in this scenario )

The question is more easily answered by having the friend look at the TRIM TAG and telling you/us what it says.. if the car is a Factory Bucket seat car and console.. then the Clock should be in the console and somebody switched out the gauge cluster at some point and the replacement one already had a clock in it.

Confused yet :D

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. It makes total sense and I feel like I should have known that, regardless of what model/year we're talking about! Duh!:clonk:
It's been another 60-hour work week. Is it time for a beer yet?

67 SS came standard with Bench Seat.. so lack of buckets and a console or gauges , etc.. has no bearing on SS status.. 138177 and you are looking at a 67 SS hardtop! Whether it is real or not.. well that takes other investigation ;) ie.. I mean someone ha snot tampered with teh VIN plate or TRIM TAG.

These cars were all about OPTIONS!! and most of the things we think of as a being Standard in a 67 SS were in fact OPTIONS!! The base engine was however always a 396/325hp.

Understood, thankd for the reply. Never the less without it being the origional engine or trans I would almost prefer a clone as I intend on driving it... hard. And I dont want to pay extra $$ for a real 138 car id be afraid to drive. But thanks for the info
