New to the forum. I've got a 67 SS396/325HP with automatic transmission and no AIR. It's an original engine car and I've had an aftermarket carb on it for years. It was on the car when I purchased it many years ago. I recently came across an original unrestored Rochester carb 7026200 at a great price dated C6 (March 1966). My engine was assembled on October 6, 1966. Would this carb be considered too early for my engine? It's a Baltimore, MD built car if that matters. I'm trying to address the few incorrect parts on my nice original car. Keeping it as original as possible is important to me.
thanks
Dereck

Carbs weren't installed at the engine assembly plant ,they were installed at the final assembly plant.
Whats the build date on your cowl tag?
I think your carb might be 7027201 not 7026200.

Mike,
7027201 is for a M/T no A.I.R car. The odd number at the end almost always denoted manual transmission, but NOT ALWAYS. Even numbers meant automatic transmission. I think the correct carb is 7027200. I am NOT 100% positive though.

Thanks for the responses. I was not aware that the carb was installed at the final assembly plant. The cowl tag indicates a build of 11A (November 1966 1st week). I confirmed that the carb is a 7026200 dated C6. Is 7027200 the correct number?

7026200 is the correct carb number for an ealy 67 with auto trans. I would look for a carb with an August or September 66 date.

Neither the 1967 AIM nor my Chevrolet parts book show any 7026xxx Rochesters for 1967 - all are 7027xxx. First design for L35/automatic w/o A.I.R. is 7027200, second design is shown as 7027216. First design is pre 10/20/66 as per the AIM drawing revision date.
