The big hole in the pic doesn't look like it belongs there for a regular mirror on drivers door. This is def a factory stamped hole , could it be for a remote mirror. The door panel was missing.............
What are the dimensions / center line distance between holes? Late '66 (changed in March '66) and '67 had the same remote mirrors and the hole sizing and placement is shown in the AIM.
My 70 has a remote mirror and the hole is factory, My 71 has a standard mirror, BUT the door has a pre punched hole for a remote.
The big hole is for the remote cables.

All 67 LH doors have the remote mirror cable hole already stamped out in the door skin and the support piece behind it. The regular mirror base and gasket cover up the hole (barely) when properly mounted. On most original paint cars you can even see the ripple in the door skin above and below the regular mirror gasket. They weren't building 'em for car shows!
