67 El Camino gas gauge pegged on the full side of the gauge.

What would be the troubleshooting steps and in what order.

Thanks
Mark

Never mind.. I did a search on old threads that were about this same issue and found some good information.

Mark, the most likely problem is with the sending unit in the tank. I have a 66 but I think both units would be the same.

It could be as simple as the float is stuck in the up position giving a false reading. The float is part of the same assembly for the pickup tube in the tank.

My first test would be to give a few light taps on the pick up unit and see if that corrects the problem.

If that is not it then you would need to test the electrical signal from the sending unit. I do not know what the correct reading should be. I am sure someone on the board will know. If you have a faulty sending unit you will need to replace it.

Ground up part # XSU-730 $59.00
