i just entered my chevelle it it's first car show,and got a 3rd place,the judges counted off for the tappet covers not being orginal,and the distributer being wrong.We have Mickey Thompson tappet covers on because the ones that came out won't clear the roller lifters,and we have the electronic distributer because we didn't think the old ones would have enough fire to make the car run right,since we have a roler cam in itand the vacum is'nt that great .They also counted off because of a chrome alternater,but that is a easy fix.
Can any one tell me how I need to go about fixing these problems?Do they make tappet covers that look orgional,but still will give me the clearence we needwe don't want to double gasket them because of oil leaks,also can I get a old type distributer that will performe with our motor?
I appreicate any help or suggestions.

Maybe just enter it in the modified class instead of the stock class where your aftermarket parts won't count againist you. Nice looking car!

I have to agree.. you obviously made these mods to the car because you like them, so why change them to satisfy a Judge, and one that will likely not be the same the next time you have your car judged.. that next judge will find something else which is NON-stock/original. Trust me, I show my car Bone Stock and though I don't think I ever got points taken for non original items, a judge always finds something.... sort of like an Auditor.. they are not happy unless they can nit pick... I know,, I judge!

Now, if you are truly interested in showing your car competitively to WIN Awards, then by all means.. get rid of all the non stock items and do it right for the class you want to show in.'

To fit the Chrome original covers with a roller cam we used double gaskets (Victor - no leaks so far) and ground down (a little) the one rocker on each side that was hitting the cover.

In the picture look at the second rocker down on the left side. You see the silver color where we 'adjusted' the edge of that rocker. More on the top edge, just rounded it off a little. Doesn't weaken anything.

Worked for me. Wanted to use the original covers.

Is your firewall and underhood painted body color?? if so, I can't see you ever being classed in a STOCK class.. just curious.

We have cut a set of original valve covers and spliced in an extesion from a second set. You probably don't need much more height and if it's done right no one will ever know. pull the distributor and replace it for shows. mount a coil wiring and call it good.

Thanks for the input guys,ya we painted the firewall that way ,we think it looks better.I suppose u cain't please ever one hu?I found some chrome valve covers that are tall and say chevelle on them ,not stock,but would probally look better under the hood.

What others have said. :yes: Make the car what you want and enjoy it. It's not about the trophys.

I'm curious though. Some judge commented about the valve covers and dist. but didn't say anything about the wheels or exhaust?

I like the valve covers. Keep them. :thumbsup:

Maybe next time you should get Lawyer Daggett involved.

That is what I was thinking.. what judge says something about those things but not about a Firewall and underhood painted body color on a US built car? Oh well.. I still feel as everyone else.... you did things the way you did because you LIKE IT!! So that is good enough for me! :yes:
