67 Chevelle Air Cleaner

I'm trying to locate an orginal air cleaner for a 67 396/325hp motor. My understanding is that it came with a factory open air chrome unit. I was talking to Sloans Chevelle and he was telling me that the original air cleaner was a snorkel unit with fittings for a smog pump. The car was made in Freemont CA, so who's right? HELP!

The original air cleaner on my 325hp 67 SS396 was a single snorkel, black base with a chrome lid. There were no hoses connected to it. It uses the same filter element as the open-element air cleaner. My Chevelle was built in Baltimore, and sold new in Ohio.

Is the base the same as the one off a 327 Qjet car? I have one of those, in fact I have the whole deal, top and bottom. It's not chrome on the lid, it is black and a single snorkel.

Wally,

I'm not sure if it will fit or not, I guess it depends on the type of carb. What size is you Qjet? I've got picture of the one from Sloans. Did you want me to email them to you to see if it looks the same?
Let me know.

I've got an original 67 El Camino which I bought in Jan 67.
It still has the original 396/325 with air pump. The air cleaner, as I recall,(the car is in Eugene, OR and I'm in Los Angeles right now
) is a single snorkel, chrome top, with two hose connections. One in the base to the air pump the other to the valve cover. At least that is how I remember it.
