Has anyone installed caliper brackets from 69-72 Chevelle disk brakes on 67-68 Chevelle disk brake spindles.

I think it will work but would like to verify that it works.

Trying to get away from the four piston calipers. Anything to do with them is expensive now.

Thank you,

I own a 68 disc car and my understanding is many things including the brackets is different. However if you replace everything why not. I have a 71 Camaro SS single piston disc and my 68 L79 have the 4 piston and there is no comparison in how they feel or stop. I would seriously think about removing a very rare and high performance factory functional braking system. What parts do you consider expensive? Rotors and calipers.

Verle,

Not sure if this is helpful, but I did a post a few months back in "Mechanical - Brakes/Suspension/Steering" forum on installing Brembo 6 piston calipers into a '68 Chevelle. It involved using 2" drop spindles from CPP. The cost was pretty low since the calipers came off a crashed 2006 Porsche Cayenne. The braking performance with them is really good.

Good luck!

Are you saying the 68 set up is better? Thank you..

I think the 68 is like the 67. They are very similar if not identical to 67-68 Z28 Camero disks.

The calipers and brackets are 67 - 68 only, not many made, expensive to buy now.

I have the 67 spindles, rotors and brackets, no calipers.

They are similar to the Camaro and Vettes but they have smaller pistons then the Chevelle's. For our car they are known as large bore and are over 2 inch in piston diameter. To the best of my knowledge the 67 and 68 Chevelles are identical. I have my originals but needed SS sleeving and I am not fond of old metal when it comes to stopping my car so I bought a set of reproductions from OPG on sale. However any parts store can order you a set of rebuilt 4 piston calipers just make sure they are large bore to match your master cylinder. I bought my exact repro rotors from Jegs which came from Just Right. Here is a pic

. You can see my old rotors in the background.

Update: The Z28 all wheel disc brakes were similar but not the front disc/rear drum setup. Those were single piston at least for sure in 69.

I bought a set of 67 Z28 Camaro disk brakes from a salvage about 1969 and installed them on my 65 Chevelle. Ran them for many years. Restored them about 10 years ago and sold them to a guy restoring a 67 Z28 for a high price and he was very happy with the deal. Replaced them with a set from a 70 Chevelle.

The Camaro calipers were smaller than Corvette calipers.

Back to my original question, Will 69-72 brackets fit the 67 spindle.?
