A friend is getting ready to install an Edelbrock 5421 2x4 intake, Eddy 1405 carbs, and Eddy 1235 air cleaner on his '67 SS396 (SS hood). He was told it wouldn't clear the hood when shut. Anyone know for sure?

I'm guessing NO...that air cleaner is not a drop center which I've always had to use with any Edelbrock intake under an early Chevelle hood.
He may have to use a much shorter filter...if he can find one to fit that cleaner assembly.

I dont know how much difference there is but it wouldnt fit under my big block hood in my 69 chevelle.I have to run a drop base breather and a 3 inch filter to get a aftermarket intake to fit.

I would say No as well. I had a 2x4 crossram on a sbc in my 67 el camino and it just cleared the stock hood. I had to cut part of the underhood bracing for the front carbs air cleaner (10" x 2" non drop base air cleaners).

Looking up the height specs on the Edlebrock website...

The #5421 2x4 intake has measurements of A=3.95" and B=4.65"
As a comparison, the #7163 1x4 RPM intake measures A=4.45" and B=6.0"

Thanks, I'm guessing he'll have to use a different air cleaner if it's not a drop base.
