I've been looking for a speedometer face (I guess that's what it's called) for my 67 without the high beam indicator cutout. Harder to find than I thought. I'm not 100% sure, but didn't the 66's all come without that cutout? If so, would the 66 work ok?

I found one with about 16,000 miles (from a 66), but I would rather keep my odometer which is at about 63,000 miles, but can't seem to remove the orange speed indicator needle. Is there some trick to that without breaking it?

The 66 Chevelle did not have the high beam in the speedometer face and neither did the 67 Chevelle but only when ordered with the gauge package.

There are some differences in both years in the warning lamp areas as well as the mph markings.

1966 dash cluster without gauges. Note warning lamps and distance between 10 and 110 mph vs the numbers to the left (0 & 20) and right (100 & 120) of 10 and 110 and those of the 1967 unit below.

1967 dash cluster without gauges.

It will physically fit, yes but you'd have to revamp the bulbs and wiring moving the high beam to the lower right lamp cluster and finding something to do with the 67s BRAKE warning lamp.

I've never tried to remove the odometer itself, or just the needle from the speedometer so I hesitate to give any clues on that.

Usually I use a side cutters and very carefully get under the needle where it goes on the stem and then pull it off. It may take some force so be carefull that the needle does not go flying. I have done this many times with no problems. And yes, the 66 face will work fine. Hope this helps.

The speedometer face has nothing to do with the indicator lights, it's a seperate piece. Just cut the sheetmetal where it surrounds the needle at the bottom and slide your 66 face over it. You can't see the mod once it's installed in the dash. The differences in the speedo numbers is in the lense. If you remember that the 66 lense has the "0" located at the intersection of the radius and upper horizontal and the 67 is somewhat inboard it's a little easier to discern.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have said the odometer face and not the speedometer face (bezel)

Below is my current dash cluster. What I want is to remove the original high beam indicator in the 'odometer' face to make it look more like the RPO U14 Special Instrumentation option should.

I know that but there's still those pesky lamps to contend with if you take out the 67 high beam indicator.

Flameout - since you already apparently have the BRIGHT and BRAKE solve you should be able to just swap a 66 speedo unit and retain the 67 lens, frame, and bezel.

Good idea with a little bit of hassle but still the gauges will appear as repro gauges to those that know. Are those repro Shiftworks gauges? I have the repro gauges and it was pointed out to me at a cruise in the difference between the Shiftworks and original gauges. I looked at an original set and can spot it every time now. Now, I want original gauges.
It never ends........

Yes, they are the Shiftworks gauges. They are fine for me, but original would be nice. I actually have a set of originals in VERY bad shape. Not even sure they could be restored. My car has so many repop parts now, what's a few more :D

Jessie, thanks for that info. The first link you posted is actually the one I was referring to in my original post, with the 16,000 miles. The second one I haven't seen, but will be watching, even though he wants $20 for shipping

The ones from Hinshaws are the ones I bought, but they are such bad reproductions, I used an original "Bright' lens, even though it's pretty bad. They look like they cost about $0.29 cents to make. I can't understand why someone hasn't reproduced these. Seems like it would be a simple process
