How can you tell a '66 vs '67 dash panel? I have two panels and the spacing on the controls measures out the same. The difference is around the steering column. One has slotted holes and the other has non-slotted for the column mount. The one with non slotted holes also has a place for two screws for the cover that goes under the steering column. The width for the column on the one without slotted holes is just over 4" and the one with the slotted holes is just under 4". Thanks

the 67 column opening is bigger then 66. 67 should have slotted column mount where 66 does not

That's what is interesting with the two dashes the one without the slots is 4 1/8" at the bottom of the opening verses the one with the slots is 3 3/4". I would have thought the '67 would have the slots and the wider column opening.

Also I just measured the spacing between the controls and they appear to be identical. On the centerline the first control is about 2 1/8" to the center, the next one is about 5 3/8", the next about 16" and the last seems like it was around 18 1/2" (I'd have to remeasure that one).

on the 66 you can put 2 fingers between the headlight switch & the windshield wiper switch & the 67 you can put 3. also i think im correct in saying that 66 had lower steering column cover & 67 didn't. also if you have the cluster in the 67 has a rectangle light in the upper left corner of the speedometer for bright lights & the 66 doesn't. at least that's the way the six dashes i have are.hope this helps. steven

The Fed mandated energy-absorbing columns in 67, (and seat-back latches too). The opening in 67 dash is slightly larger to accomodate the bigger column diameter.

The wiper knob on the 1967 dash is moved approximately 1/2-inch to the right to facilitate collapsible steering column and hazard warning flashers that became standard on the 1967 model year. The 1966 switches measure approximately 2 13/16-inches from headlamp-to-wiper while the 1967 switches measure approximately 3 3/8-inches.

{Edit} No, there was no early and late 67 dash panels.

Both of the dashes measure about 3 1/4 - 3 3/8" between the switches. The one that measures 3 3/4 at the column opening and has slotted column mount and appears like the '66 one shown in the pic where the bottom column cover would fit. The other one that is 4 1/8" has regular round holes for the column mount and also a flatten spot on each side of the column. It's like the face is folded back close to the bottom edge and has tabs for a small screw on each side of the column. I assume it's to hold the bottom column cover. I'm puzzled on what I have.

Well, I just had a friend with a 66 measure the centerline distance between the headlamp and wiper switch on his 66 and came up with 2 3/4-inches while I went out to my 67 and remeasured to be sure and I came up with 3 3/8-inches. Anybody else with a 66 that would care to measure it for confirmation?

Because of this thread, I just measured the '66 A/C dash I have stored in the attic above my shop today.
It measured 2 3/4" from light to wiper.
This dash still has both switches so I measured from the left edge of the headlight knob to the left edge of the wiper knob. ;) Both knobs are the same diameter so it should have given me an accurate center-to-center measurement.

I find the easiest way to tell the difference is the way the panel (malibu and SS) above the glove box mounts. 66 has holes around the perimeter of the trim piece. the 67 has four hole in a row in the middle of the trim piece, right?
