Hello,

This is my first post here. Great forum and since I finally got myself a Chevelle yesterday I'm glad to be part of it.

My car is a 1966 base car, no power anything. It has a small block - supposedly a 305 (why in the world???). I am looking to add power steering with the Grand Cherokee box. I have to get everything since the car came as manual steering.

Can you guys look at my parts list and tell me if you think these would work, or if there is anything else I'd need?

Rockauto:
GC Steering Box Lares 1353
Rag Joint Lares 200
Power steering pump Lares 2033
Power steering reservoir cap Dorman 82581

OPG:
Crank Pulley, small block double groove CHT9603
Power steering pulley (says 64-72 keyway fitting) CH20006
Lower/main power steering pump bracket SFL0001
Small block power steering pump adjustment bracket SFL0004
Power steering pitman arm C220248

Rockauto lists several belt options. Anyone know which part for the belt I would need? Also which PS hoses work?

I've read the center link has to be replaced to use the power steering pitman arm? I can't tell from OPG website which I would need?

I appreciate any help. I have read multiple threads on here that cover swapping the box for the GC box, but since I'm starting from scratch I thought I'd ask for input before I go ordering things.

I found this bracket kit on summit:

Borgeson Universal Power Steering Pump Brackets (kit) 802400

It's much less expensive and comes with the hardware too. I think it would work.

I also recommend that you fill your power steering system with genuine GM power steering fluid. It was/is the only power steering fluid that was specifically formulated to operate with the Saginaw/GM power steering pump.

GM part number 89020661, amber colored, 32 fluid oz

ACDelco part number 89021182, 32 fluid oz.

Hmmm..........I just got a steering box from an 80's Trans Am, and pump and bracket........worked in my 66.
Did the pump mount on the lower driver's side? Is your alternator on the same side?

I tried to mount the pump I have (90 camaro - but the size looks identical to all the other GM PS pumps I've fooled with) and it hits the steering box without even having a pulley on it.

I really want a modern pump so it has the metric/o-ring fittings instead of mix/matching pump/box.

I went ahead and ordered Alan Grove components 600L bracket set. Tried and tried other cheap alternatives but nothing fit - all had PS pump too low.

I also am using a 1990 Camaro steering pump so I should be able to use OEM hoses to connect to my JGC steering box. I'll update later.
