I have a 1966 Muncie 4 speed Trans 3885010 side cover 3884685 tail; housing 3857584 these numbers are all correct
even has correct vin to the car and engine but the date code stamp is odd what I have read they' re supposed to have
the letter P and 4 numbers but mine has P01007 can anyone help me with this issue I'm assuming its Oct. 7th but I don't know what the first 0 is.

Thanks for your reply SRU1436 and i will send a pic later, I 've read almost every website about Muncie trans and they all say date codes have letter P with 4 numbers mine has P01007 Thanks again

IIRC the number of splines and the number of rings on the input shaft will tell you exactly which type of Muncie you have. Obviously this will only be an option if the trans is out of the car, or if you're willing and able to pull it.

Try posting a few pics of all of your casting numbers and the date code if you can.

Are you sure you don't have too many zeros in it? Should be P-muncie, 01 January, 07 day.
3885010 1966. Maybe they miss stamped it, what is the assembly date on the trim tag?
Trans should be a week or two before that assembly date.

thanks dane63 and byr66 and I have a few pics to try to identify my trans hope these help, the engine suffix is T12136K137303 same as the vin 138176K137303 Barn Find Chevelle, another thing i 'm confused about is paint code is L-L tropic turquoise but it has a textured black painted top with the lines where a vinyl top would be any info on this would helpful as well thanks. RE your top, someone probably put that on later on, some people installed vinyl tops after purchasing the car.
Engine: T Tonawanda, 1 Chevrolet, 213 Feb. 13, 6 1966.
Trim tag: date 2D Feb. 4th week.
Trans: must be Jan 07 to correspond with the above dates, I don't remember seeing heavy stamps like that.
