The interior in my car was completely removed when purchased. No headliner, dash, carpet etc. I do have all those retainer strips, if thats what they're called, but they were detached. I have cleaned them up and now am ready to tackle the headliner. But, I couldn't find the fasteners for those strips. Could not find them in the catelogues I have. Anybody know where I could get some. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, I should've mentioned that I'm talking about 6 strips; the two small ones for the sail panels/earmuffs (early model 66), one each at the front and back windows, and one each for the sides which are very long. So the panhead screws work for all ? Thats great! I'm on it tonight.

I used a bunch of pan head screws on my early style 66 head liner tack strips. because dummy me thought it was a good idea to remove them and break all the little clips that held them on originally.

The factory used a flat little clip to hold those to the car. You can hardly get them out without destroying them and that's probably why you don't have any. What makes them so special is that the head is flat so it doesn't create a lump in your headliner material. So now you will need to find a flat head fastener to replace them and the flat head phillips works well. I'll bet you could try the wheel well trim screws too.

The panhead screws will require drilling holes in the strip and the brace. Does anyone have an alternative or is that what must be done?
You shouldn't have to drill any holes. All the holes should already be there. Just need to find some screws that fit. Should be readily available at hardware/big box store.

Brad, yes holes are already there but earlier someone indicated using #8 x 1/2 pan heads so I bought some and they are way too small for the holes so thats why I asked. I will check for larger ones today. Thanks

Mike, I'm afraid I'm confused here, I thought you were referring to the front windshield clip retainers and the rear window ones as well. I deal with 68 and 69 cars along with my 66 and sometimes I lump them together. The short panhead self tapping screw are used for the long window tac strips. The muff strip that is pictured above is only used on the late 66 cars and 67 also. The early 66 cars had a much smaller muff and I've never looked behind the liner to see how they're retained. The screws for the muff strips shown are also correct and are counter sunk #10 screws I believe.
Sorry for the confusion.

Those are the same strips I was referring to on my '67. I know '66 had two different style headliners, so Mike, you must have the early style.

Yes, I do have the early style. There is a retainer strip that is at the bottom of the headliner that runs from the quarter window to the rear. I dont have the clips to attach those to the brace. The fasteners are not reproduced and fabrication is the only solution from what I've been told. Thanks for your help anyway. All suggestions welcome.

AMK does make some of the clips for the early 66 ear muff headliner panel I know for my car all the strips used a special clip that held the metal strips in place. since I removed all the strips and broke all the clips. I got some small pan head screws and pre-drilled holes in the strips and inside the car and screwed the strips in. :beers:
