OKAY GUYS THIS STUFF IS NEW TO ME
I JUST OPENED MY NEW DASH PAD BOX THINKING IT WOULD GIVE ME AN IDEA ABOUT REPLACEMENT BY LOOKING AT THE NEW ONE-WRONG
HOW DOES THE BACK SIDE (CLOSEST TO WINDSHIELD) ATTATCH ? IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE SPEEDNUTS HOW MUCH DISSASIMBALY DO I HAVE TO DO ON THE FRONT IE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ETC ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

to do it right remove the windshield, and unscrew the metal dash pad. this will allow you to see the bottom of the metal dash. then just attach your new one.

I have a 66 & went through the same thing.
I ended up taking the dash out completely (It needed cleaned & re-wired anyways). There are speed nuts along the windshield part, and screws along the bottom edge of the pad. It really isn't that bad taking the dash out, just a big pain in the but!

thanks for the help guys i tjink ill opt for the windshield still kind of scares me butt I'll tackle it
