Did anyone else see that a '66 Danube Blue L78 sold for $47,000 @ Mecum Dallas auction? Write-up suggested it was a matching numbers motor. That's hard to believe for $47K. Build date of late March would work for an L78. Anyone know any details about this car??

Looks like the 4-sp goes for a little more than the auto. No mention of documentation.

Previous thread said it sold for $50,000. Now sells for less on auction. Makes you wonder?

Complete projects have sold/ most recently sold for 40-50K. I have recently seen them sell well in excess of 200K.

I don't know much about this particular car to comment on the selling price.

I am aware of two real 66 L78's that have changed hands in private sales north of $200K in the last two years. These were "no questions" cars - no funky stamps, no fake docs, no Tiawan floors, etc.

With that said, I don't think it is anyone's place to post "proof" of a private transaction on a public forum (i.e., who was the buyer, who was the seller, which particular car was it, etc.). That is the buyer's and seller's business only, and if they want it to be public knowlege they'll post it! :thumbsup:

TH400? No idler pulley, open positive ventilation system (should be closed on a 375), no A.I.R., grille extensions and splash pan not painted correctly, orange-painted water neck, Tonawanda engine sticker, wrong battery, wrong upper alternator brace, don't see the carb return spring but it should be hooked to the upper alternator brace, and probably more but it's late. I don't see where it 'claims' to be an original L78 though.

Day One condition? :noway: Maybe day two. No idler pulley, wrong master cylinder, and it's just a description thing but there no such thing as SS gauges.

I happen to respect your opinion very highly, Jeff, & you may be correct; perhaps it isn't his place to prove anything. But I'm almost positive you missed his deleted post in this thread where he asked me directly what kind of proof I'd like to see. It was only up for a few minutes unfortunately, & by the time I read it & responded, he took it down. I'm not sure why he decided to remove it, but that's something you'd have to ask him.

With that said, I completely understand that many sellers & buyers don't always want their transactions made public. However, when Mr. Cruz chimed in that he'd "seen" these cars go for over $200k, it didn't seem like anyone's privacy was being breached. That's the reason I asked for proof. Fair enough?

I record and watch Mecum every Saturday evening, and saw the car you're talking about.

I don't know any details about it, but it looked beautiful on a 42 inch HD TV. :thumbsup:
