Re: 66 chevelle vent indows

There is a link to a car magazine rebuild on here somewhere. I don't see it right now. I'll link to it if I find it.

The long cast piece is to be rechromed. The other visible trim parts are stainless. If they are in fair shape they can be polished.

The steel frame is galvanised. It doesn't show so you could clean it and paint it, if it is not too rusty. The vent handles seem to be prone to pitting. they are easy to remove can be rechromed or replaced.

It is a great time to replace all the rubber. There are three pieces. I had good luck with Metro brand.

Your vent window stainless seems to last the best. Should only need a good cleaning. If they are crap, ebay would be a place to look. Most convert or 2dht 66-67 A body cars are the same.

That's a good price on those re-chromes, IMO.

If either of yours are rejected by the chrome shop as not suitable for re chrome, then good donor pieces are fairly easy to find. Check the ads here on the forum. Also, the replacement piece available from NPD now is a nice reproduction.

Are you talking about the nut on the bottom of the window that retains the friction spring? If so, the stud is part of the frame attached to the glass. You'd have to replace the glass assembly or at least replace the frame that is attached to the glass. It'd be easier to just replace the glass with a piece with a good frame and stud.
