Guys,

Anyone ever try to use the GM # 10240721 six quart pan that comes on some GM crate engines in a '66 or any other year Chevelle? I've got a 427/480HP with this pan and I'm now reading it is a truck oil pan and might not fit.

Anyone?

Thanks!

I read around the forums here, did some other searching on the Internet, and the pan that got the most recommendations for my application was the Milidon 30956. I ordered one last night with the matching pump, pickup, dipstick, etc.

I can't help but ask though: Why would Chevrolet, in all of its wisdom, put a truck pan on a 427, an engine that the vast majority of guys out there building cars would not put in a truck? Wouldn't more of them be building Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, etc.? Not only that, but GM lists the pan as being used in production trucks for just a few years in the early 1990s. Moreover, the same pan is used on other GM crate engines too, so a lot of other guys have run into this problem. Why didn't Chevrolet use a more common or universal fit pan? Seems like a really bad call to me. Then, to offer a four quart pan as an alternative to a factory installed six quart pan compounds the stupidity.

Such is life I guess.

Thanks for the help guys.
