Good morning, I'm working on a 66 with a 468 that has a Moroso 7 quart oil pan. I'm in the process of installing a new master cylinder/brake booster and new front brake lines.
My issue is that there is only a 1/4inch clearance between the oil pan and crossmember, and that is the factory location for the routing of the front brake line.
So I'm trying to figure out the best alternative route. Any ideas, solutions?
Thanks

Check your trans mount. When I put a new one in it raised the motor up in the back and gave me a lot clearance. It can also depend on the pan. Is your trans crossmember in stock location as far a bolting to the frame.

My stainless coil wrapped 3/16 ni/cop line is in the factory position and I have a Milodon 7 quart pan. No sweat.
How else do you intend to get your front cross line over to the passenger side? Not a lot of options unless you run it on the firewal.

I don't understand the question. The brake line does not run on top of the cross member it runs along the rear side of it.
Not positive but I believe the oil pan may run along both surfaces.

I believe that BOP468 statement is correct if it is like my 68 Chevelle the lines can run two ways across the front frame section. One runs forward and up for a small block and to the rear on the rear lower edge protected by the frame for a big block. You will need to call InlineTube or other manufacturers to see if they offer the one you need. When I did my brake lines I received the big block line which works but in my case I have a small block and had no clearance issues but it was certainly different.

No, it runs along the back of the crossmember, between the crossmember and front of the oil pan

I was looking at it again today. I think if I keep the line high on the crossmember I'll have the clearance I need

Yeah, when I jack the transmission up about 1/2 inch I have enough clearance, but my transmission is all but touching the tunnel. It looks like, if I could lower the engine 1/2 inch that it would improve clearance?

That brake line isn't stock and it goes nowhere near where you have it now.!
I believe it is stock, it’s just bent and away from the frame.

The factory push in clips will keep the 3/16 line at the lower edge and at the rear of the cross member. the factory line did not use armor wrap at this location. It didn’t need it.
So, I’m guessing your engine is already in? It’s gunna suck a little to plumb that line with the engine in the way. I ran mine before the engine went in.

I sent you a private message.

As I stated with my 68 that front cross frame line can run in front or in the rear of the cross frame section. I removed my original line which is secured with screwed clips to the frame. With my new line I used the optional location and used the unused predrilled holes in the rear lower section of the cross frame. I would buy a cheap HF double flare tool and bender and make a line long before I would trust 1/4 gap before crushing my front brake lines or changing the geometry of the engine/driveline alignment. Just engine torque or hitting a bump could close or change that gap. I realize the frame is different but 66/67 are very close to the same in that location. Here is a pic of my 68. Follow the right brake line to where you see it on the frame. You will see it low on the frame and the bolt/clip holding it down low and away. Zoom in. At a minimum change the line location.. Chances are you can remove the clips and bend the line a bit to buy you room.
