Rebuilding a Basket case 65.
Currently have 14X7 Slots on rear w/215-75-14"tires.
Not much clearance.
Would like to run 17" wheels in the future.
How wide can i go and how wide of a tire also?
If I use a 7" rim, should all the backspace be inside, or can it be recessed outside?

Here is what I have on my 65 El Camino. front 17x7 4.5 inch back space with 205/45/17 tires. Rear 17x8 5 inch back space with 235/45/17 tires. Didn't have to trim the fender lips for clearance and I have the chrome wheel well trim on. Maybe could of gone with 245/45/17 on the rear but 235's are fine. Hope that helps.

I would think that 235's and 255's would fit fine on your Elky with those wheel specs.

On my 64 I run a 245/50/16 front and 255/50/16 rear-both on 16x8's with 5in backspace-NO RUB and car is a bit lower than stock-
The rear is a 65 12 bolt w disc's and the front is THE DREADED B BODY(+1 in of track width) spindle
A 15/16/17x7 with 4.5 back space always seem to work well on 64/65 stock front ends
Here are some options(I'm also thinkin about 17's)

rear
245/50=26.7
255/50=27in
255/50=26.1 all on a 17X8 5 in backspace

stock front end------ on the HEAP(1 extra in. track)
17x7 4.5 backspace ------17x8 5in bc
235/50=26.3 ------245/45=25.7
225/50=25.9 ------245/50=26.7
235/45=25.4
