Well that depends on what is installed in there now. I believe the originals were #1445 which are 1 candle power. If that is what you have you can upgrade to a #1895 (2 candle power) or a 1816 which is 3 candle power.
If you already have the 3 candle power, which I tried in my 69 and they are not that bright in my opinion, then the next bump is to LED bulbs which with right bulbs make a huge difference and are available in warm white which is not all that far from the tone of incandescent bulbs.

I did the LED lights before I went to Dakoda Digital. The LED lights are nice as they are brighter but draw less power and create less heat. The problem with some of the brighter older style bulbs is the heat and in the 1965 there are some confined spaces where the bulbs go.

The correct light bulbs for a 1965 Malibu dash. That was the subject we were discussing was it not?
Well there were 4 different light bulbs discussed in this thread. I believe the correct light bulbs would be the #1445 which the OP expressed a desire to upgrade from. The incandescent bulbs are common bulbs at most auto parts.
