Please help...
I went to replace what I thought was my stock sway bar and noticed that the sway bar was mounted too far forward. Looks as though someone had to bend the endlink bolts where they mount to the control arms to get things connected. Did all SS cars have sway bars? Will self threading screws work since there would be no way to get at the nut if I drilled new holes?

Thanks

are the end link bolts cocked to the side lke that when it's sitting on the ground, or just when the weight is off the suspension?
if it's just when the suspension is dropped down, then it's probably normal.

Their like that with the tires on the ground. Its at such an angle I cannot get the new end links bolted. The brackets which hold the sway bar also have to be bent quite a bit since the frame curves upwards towards the bumper right between the two bolt holes.

Does anyone have a pic of a sway bar on a 64-65?

Thanks

Check out the suspension build photos on my wagon website or the "undercarriage tour" on my SS website. Links are in my signature line.

Those pictures are going to be a huge help. Mine is mounted about an inch in front of where yours is. Going to go out see if perhaps the old holes were filled with dirt and painted over by the previous owner :).

Your lucky to have a two door wagon. On a seperate note do you by any chance have the part number for the Headman headers? I had to dimple my hookers (per instructions) to clear the steering column.

Thanks.

I'm dealing with a unhappy sway bar setup myself. Apparently mine was mounted upside down and my endlinks were bent to accomidate.

As for not being able to get nuts on your bolts. One of mine is stripped. I had noticed that if you look in the front of the frame horn, you can get access to the inside. Keep in mind it is very limited. My plan is to somehow hold a nut in place inside there and bolt from the bottom. it's an option. A PITA, but an option for you.

Good luck.

Was able to find the original holes and used 3/8 sheet metal screws to attach the sway bar. Someone had drilled new holes which were to far forward. Think they picked this spot because there is a plate where the steering box attaches making it even harder to access the nuts on the other end of the bolts. If you end up having to dril new holes I did see that some of the sway bar kits come with what looks like a mini U bolt. This would allow you to insert it into one hole and out the other.

Good Luck.

Heddman #68198. I did have to put in one very slight dimple to clear the passenger side lower control arm mount. They clear the steering shaft just fine.
