Hey Guys, I'm adding a set of headers on my 350 small block. I have my alternator mounted on the driver's side. It is mounted by a universal bracket from the water pump and a lower bracket that is bolted on by the exhaust manifold. I have manual steering also. I'm pulling off my manifolds and adding a set of Hedman headers. I'm wondering if I can use the existing lower bracket or do I need one specifically for headers?? I've seen the chrome or iron aftermarket ones... Any thoughts??

Do you want a band-aid or a solution?

It'll never be truly 'right' using the brackets you've got. Yes, you can sleeve the forward exhaust manifold bolt that's going to be affected by the header installation, but it'll work it's way loose over time and cause headaches.

The solution is to get a different belt drive setup- either later-model factory serpentine or aftermarket replacement serpentine are the ones most end up with because they work really well and don't require constant maintenance. But, they're kinda pricey too.

So, you can solve it now or you can solve it later, but you won't solve it using the brackets you've got.

A serpentine system sounds nice... if that's what you want... I'm kind of simple i guess. I don't have many accessories that would require it. As far as the bolts vibrating loose, how come the bolts on the bracket currently haven't loosened?? hmmmm....

So I found a bracket that will work with my alternator.. However in further inspection the header on the drivers side doesn't clear the upper control arm.. The set i ordered is headman hedders pt#68640. I have the passanger side bolted up with no issues. The drivers side angles down too soon. I'm looking on Headman's website so see if they have a set that will jive with my manual steering and auto column shift tranny.. Any suggestions?
