I'm installing a painless kit in a 64 chevelle, and having some trouble with the wipers.

I made jumpers and installed them to the terminals and found that putting the yellow/black to the + and the blue/black to the - the wipers worked. I also noticed the old switch had one terminal.

Along with the painless harness i'm installing late-model switches, and the wiper switch has 3 terminals (for different speeds) and a main input.

Going with the knowledge of the battery test, i grounded the blue/black, and put the yellow/black through the switch. and the painless main + for the wipers to the main input on the new switch.

I need to know a couple things. Will i be able to wire this with my new switch? And did i do the circuits backwards? Should i have put a main positive right to the motor, and then used the switch to break ground? Am i correct with the idea that the yellow is + and the blue is -??

Most of the equipment i'm connecting to is aftermarket with diagrams supplied with it, and the heater/brake and headlight systems are something i've tackled in the past so it was no problem.
Wiring is quickly becoming one of the things i enjoy alot, despite my current delema.

thanks for any and all help!

The base wiper for 64 is a single speed motor, its a square motor. The optional two speed with depressed park is a round motor. Either can have the washer pump. From you description I believe you have the single speed.

The yellow wire needs to be switched by the ignition switch, power when ign is ON. The factory used the accessory circuit, hot with ign ON or in ACC your choice. The other wire will ground at the switch in low speed position, not grounded when the switch is off. If you have a washer pump that circuit also gets an ign switched power the second wire grounds momentarily to start a wash cycle.

Brian, make sure the wiper switch base or housing has a good ground. The 64 switch mounts to a plastic bezel. Unless the base is grounded, the ground wires attached to the switch won't work the motor.
