Hey guys, just wanted to pick your brains about my Canton 6 qt pan. With the stock oil pan on the 350 in my '69, I had clearance between the pan and the crossmember. With the Canton pan on my 406, I had to shim the engine up to get the pan off the crossmember. This is with the same solid motor mounts and nothing else changed. I don't like the shims being there and was wondering if anyone knew of a motor mount that would raise the engine about an inch and if this would cause driveline angle problems. Thanks.

I don't know about another motor mount, but I had the same problem with a Canton pan. Another thing you need to look out for is the grease fittings on the inner tie rods bashing into the pan when you turn the wheels all the way to one side or the other. With power steering you'll never feel it hit, and it can puncture the pan.

What did you do to fix it?
The inner and outer tie rods on a Chevelle are identical except for the grease fittings. On the inners the fitting points straight out, and on the outers it points down. I just swapped the tierods to gain more clearance. The only downside is that it's now a little more difficult to grease the tie rods. You have to remove the wheels to grease the outers, and turn the steering wheel just right to reach the inners.

Georgia69, that info was helpful, but I was wondering how you got the oil pan more clearance.
I shimmed it with a couple of washers between the motor mounts and the block. I put a lot of miles on it, no trouble at all.
