Hey guys....I know it's a corvette, and not a chevelle, but you have helped me alot with questions about the motor, so I wanted to show you what I've got so far. This is from a post at the corvette forum. My forum name there is TNBusa.

That's similar to one of the crate engines that Scoggin-Dickey sells. Theirs is a 555 that uses that cam but uses ported Dart heads instead of AFR's. They're getting 710hp and 675 ft lbs out of it. I've watched a few of them dyno'd and they do roar. They also have an idle that makes me want to smoke a cigarette after listening to it for a minute or so. Great choice for a mean street engine. Love the 'vette, good luck with the drivetrain. You've done a lot of the same things I'm doing to my '81 in preparation for a sweet 406.

Just curious, How did you choose that cam for your combo? Did AFR advise/help with your cam choice? I have the next step smaller Crane in my 505 which is .244/.256 and .632/.632 hyd roller. I like mine.

Thanks for the compliments! I kind of based the engine on the specs from the Scoggin-Dickey crate motor. The timing set is from them, it is a Rollmaster and supposed to be the very good....I hope it doesnt break the crank, that would suck! The heads are AFR 315 and I am currently setting the spring height. I am going to give the beehives with ty retainers a try.

Hi MIke and welcome. There are a couple of guys with 540 vettes on this site. 540HOtRod is one of them. His is a 9 sec pump gas '67 i believe, stick car too! Your vette is exactly how I would build one. edit: Oh I see you already know him!

Nice to see another Corvette over here. With all the crate engines, aftermarket blocks and virtually limitless options for cylinder heads, the 540 is fast becoming *the* engine upgrade to make. Of course a 540 makes a nice compliment to any Corvette (or Chevelle).

What rear end/half shafts and axles are you running? You'll need premium parts with this much torque.

You'll like the AFR heads.

Take care,

Mark
