my 540 is done this week. (finally) and I need to pick up some oil for it. Whats a good break in oil for me to buy? And oil to run it with in general. I used to run 20/50 on my last motor but it was a flat tappit cam and 10.1 489.

the 540 is estimated 750-800hp, 11.8.1 compression. Solid roller with Morel lifters. thanks

Does your machinist have a recommendation? I usually use straight 30W, as that's what I was told to use, yet it could have been due to the flat tappets.

My machinist had me use straight 30w and some Lucas break in additive. Dynoed with it, put motor in car fired it up, warmed it up and checked for leaks, drove it around to put some heat in it, pulled back on the lift and changed it to valvoline vr1 10w30.
