Does anyone know if GM offers such aa thing and if so what compression ratios and cams are offered?
I have a set of Merlin heads/intake already!

That is the most pathetic compresion ratio I have seen in a performance package in a while!
Whats the point of 8.75 to 1 unless you plan to use some boost.
I guess the general must be thinking we wont be able to afford premium with the way gas prices are climbing!

The local machine shop builds a fair number of boat motors using that short block. They will add a 110cc type head (like a edelbrock oval) and a hyd flat tappet in the [email protected] range and make around 525-550hp. great for a mild boat motor, my guess it would run pretty good in a street car too.

67Johnny, Im in the same situation.... I have a good set of heads and Intake, and my 396 is down for the count. I wonder if this is a good way to go for the $$$?

Does anyone know if GM employees get much of a deal on partial engines? My Dads a retiree.....

If you do a search, there are guys running 496 CI motors with oval port heads and I think some 502 guys also. Sometimes you just have to work with what you already have. JMHO, but other than the peanut port heads, I do not have any issues with any of the Chevy factory BBC heads for any most street/strip applications.
