Hey Guys,

Just replaced my body mount bushings and hardware last week and was surfing forum posts when I remembered an anomaly I was hoping someone could clear up for me.

My kit, for a '69, included a bushing numbered #5 which installed just inside and forward of the rear springs. Question is, did these NOT come installed on Malibus? My car not only did not have these, but the perches were pristine indicating that they had never been installed.

I went ahead and installed them, figured 'what the heck'. Mistake?

PS - I read that all bushings were to be torqued to 40ft lbs. Can anyone verify this? I did as instructed but was somewhat concerned about having 'pancaked' the soft rubber bottom cups.

Thanks all.

To my recollection, They are supposed to be 25lb. As to the #5's they are installed on Verts., and I think the wagons and Elkys get them as well. Hard tops and sedans did not typically get them. Putting them in won't hurt anything.

25lbs. huh? Okee-dokee, I'll re-check my source.

What you said about the #5s makes sense. I know the ragtops had/have an extra one up front that mine doesn't, . . . . and the pics of the all-original frame that had the #5s installed WAS a 'Camino. Good call.

I toyed with the thought of using some sort of urathane bushings but went ahead and went with rubber to keep at least some (admittedly not much) isolation from the chassis as I've stiffened up the rest of the suspension. That's another reason I figured the extra bushing couldn't hurt.

Thanks for your time.

My '69 hard top had them installed, but the bushing kit I got last year did not have them. I chose not to install them either. As for the torque my AM shows minimum 25 ft lbs. Also show position 5 to be wagon and pick up only.
