We have a lot of Packer fans in this area. They have all had their panties in a bunch because of the penalty that should have issued 4th down instead of 3rd after that melee that broke out after the out of bounds late hit that Clay Mathews pulled causing the 9ers to retaliate, which they blame the refs over that miscalculation, and some have even blamed the 9ers as well. Yet none of them are pointing their finger at their own player that launched the train wreck in the first place.

Not too bright to make an advance public notice you are going after the QB then do it out of bounds.

I agree.....a few face masks and holding calls that were not made. Matthews BS intentional late hit was crap, glad they got the win! Kap proved his point, he is not just a bad mofo running QB. Its going to be a great season for us NINER fans! Looking strong!

Kaepernicks abilities were clear last year. I don't think he needed to prove himself to anybody. Packers dfense again let them down. When they took the lead, they immediately gave it away again.

Boldin made a big difference. He has always been the reciever you hated to see on the other team as he can battle anybody and come down with the ball, then drag a defender with him for 10 more yards!!!

Seattle next week.

That call could have gone either way,Matthews starts his leap while Kapernick is still inbounds. If Matthews doesn,t go after him he would have gotten the first down,he was within a yard and a half.Kapernick saw him coming and went out of bounds instead.

Yes, but now that everyones gunning for him expecting him to Run, showing his passing game is a VERY smart move IMO....really throws a wrench in the game plan for other teams....they dont know what to expect :D

Was a great game. I can understand Packers fan's being all bitter about the incorrect call on the 4th down, but had that one analysis guy not say something nobody would have even known. The coaches didn't know, the refs, and certainly not 99.5% of the fans out there. IMO the retaliation penalty was pretty weak in the first place.

I was really curious how Kaepernick was going to play, thinking he may have been a one hit wonder, or maybe the fame got to his head and he wont play nearly as good. Nope, he did a great job. And I think his arm got even better. He through that 55 yard bomb like it was nothing. Boldin clearly was a great pick up.

Oh yeah, Kaepernick saw Matthews coming and ran out-of-bounds before Clay could get to him.

But how close the call was, depends on whether you look at the replay or not... Kaepernick was clearly already out of bounds, and his foot touched down about a yard out of bounds (not on the edge of the line) BEFORE Matthews left his feet. Not only had Kaep's foot touched down, but his angle was NOT one for trying to reach the 1st down marker but rather one of getting out of bounds before Matthews got to him he had the ball tucked in, not reaching for the marker... Matthews himself was less than a yard from the sideline when he left his feet... Most High School players know where the lines/markers are, so I have NO Doubt that a pro like Clay Matthews knew exactly where he was in relation to the sideline and the 1st down marker.

When you want to make the hit to avoid the 1st down, you'd typically go for the body, and push the player out of bounds before they gain any more yardage... Going for the neck/shoulders? That was only to get in an intimidating big hit, to make Kaep think twice next time he starts scrammbling for a first down...

Sure, Matthews was in motion, so contact might have been unavoidable (maybe), but the flying, high-hit was beyond necessary...

And apparently Matthews admitted such after the game...

A bad call by the refs reguarding 3rd/4th down, but really, maybe the refs should have ejected Matthews (who publicized that he was going after Kaep, AND took a BIG cheap-shot)... Offsetting penalties? still a little questionable whether Staley just got in Matthews' face or Matthews threw a few punches at Staley first... Matthews blatantly grabs and shakes Staley's facemask twice, once right in front of the ref... So the Packer's should have been penalized more than the 49ers on that play, maybe offsetting for the altercation, but it shouldn't have been completely "offsetting" anyway.

3rd & 6 or 4th & 2... or 1st and goal from the 3...
Monday, however, the league's vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino, said Staley, who threw no punches, should not have been penalized. If Matthews' penalty had been the only one, the 49ers would have had first and goal at the Green Bay 3-yard line.
