Guys,

New to forum, I'm looking for a 496 short block for a build later this summer. Looking for budget 4340 short block (Compstar, Scat, Eagle) with a Dart Big M block. This would be a pump gas motor with maybe up to 100-250 shot of nitrous at a later date. Heads that would be going on are 115CC so want to end up with about 10.5:1. Any reputable builders in the St. Louis area (or shipped) would be appreciated. I know of several "mail order" companies but hear ok and not so ok stuff about them. Trying to figure what ($$$) I'm in for a decent budget build. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks for any assistance. :beers:

I see this is your first post and welcome to our humble internet-club. As far as a 496 short block, your best bet is to find a good deal on a factory 454 (preferably a 4-bolt block), buy a complete 496 rotating asembly, and have your 454 block machined for your rotating assembly. By doing it this way you won't have any issues associated with buying someone else's junk and trying to make everything work. Good luck.:)
