My 496 full roller developed a loud clicking noise after my last time run of 10.75. everthing seemed fine on the run but when I hit the return road a loud clicking started. assumed it was obviously someting in the valve train. all lashes were well within specs. at home I inspected all rockers-lifters-pushrods&valve stems only to find nothing wrong. Could there be a broken valve spring that I'm not seeing that could cause this noise? once engine is cold no clicking until heat just starts to build. can then hear it also with the starter cranking. appears to be happening on one cylinder but can't pinpoint which one. have also ruled out starter-converter bolts & flex plate. nothing but the best parts-isky-crane-comp. I'm still trying to inspect all valvesprings but hard to see all the way around. Any ideas or help would be great-thanx.

See if you can eye ball the tie bars, just to be sure a roller is not spinning in the bore????

If you can borrow a spring seat pressure tester, you can usually find a broken spring that way. Otherwise they are about, oh I don't know $65 from Jegs. Moroso sells them. But as far as flexplate, ensure that it is not cracked around the mounting flange of the crank. That's hard to see with the trans in.
