I'm about ready to start rebuilding the 427 I just got. What compression can I safely run and still use 93 octane gas? I was thinking around 9.8 or 10 to 1. What pistons do you recommend? It is a .060 bored block with 840 heads(109 cc). I haven't decided on what cam to use yet. Don't know if I want a solid or hydrolic lift cam. Any recomendations there? I drive the car 3000 miles or more a year. I am thinking about driving it in the Power Tour next year.

I have 2 sets but haven't CCed either one. I was just going by the info I found on Mortec and another site. One says 107 cc and the other says 109cc. I just got the engine with the sets that is date coded for the block a couple days ago. I haven't had a chance to do anythig with it yet. I have to go out of town for work for a couple weeks. While I'm gone, I want to start getting parts ready for the rebuild.
Thanks, James

Where is Nazareth Pa. I will be in Pa working for the next couple weeks. Going to be in Bristol and Bethlahem.

dont go with more than 10 to 1--my 427 is 12 to 1-and runs on a diet of kemco and 94 octane sunoco----If I had to do it again,I would go with 10 to 1 comp ratio FOR SURE!!!!I think 10 to 1 comp ratio sould work on pump fuel--anyone else?

and the speed pro pistons mike talked about would be the deal!!maybe a forged set!!!

James,

Just my opinion, but these are the guide lines I like to follow on compression and gas.

9 to 1 or lower, I run 87 oct.
9.3 to 1 to 9.7 to 1, I run 89 oct.
9.7 to 9.9, I run 91 oct.
9.9 to 1 to 10.2 to 1, I run 93 oct.

There are a lot of varibles here, like the cam and timing, etc. I wouldn't run anything above 10 to 1 on street gas.

Nazareth is between Easton and Allentown. It shares a border with Bethlehem (north side of Bethlehem).
What are you coming up here for??

The construction company I work does a lot of work for WalMart. I will be working there for a week or so.
